Exterior Updates for Fall

Earlier this month, we sourced our favorite pieces for fall, including textiles, rugs, accessories, and more. We showed you how to add seasonally inspired pieces to your home by incorporating rich color tones and woven textures in the details, big and small. Today, we’re taking a similar approach as we take the autumn updates outdoors.

To help streamline the process, we’re focusing on three key areas to transition your exterior. We’ll cover furniture + lighting + layers (aka, accessories), all of which work to elevate your style in form and function. Plus, we’ve made sure each piece is shoppable so you can achieve the look with ease. Let’s dive in.

Spring isn’t the only time to elevate your outdoor living design. As long as the weather cooperates, we love hosting get-togethers al fresco with the changing leaves as our backdrop. To help set the scene, make sure you have an outdoor dining table with plenty of seating for everyone. This rattan-inspired table is a great example that provides ample room for serving up a fall harvest meal. Just add your favorite red wine and some great company.

As the daylight hours continue to shorten, lighting is more important than ever. Fall is a great time to rethink your front door lights with fresh outdoor sconces to help anchor your exterior style. Along with the entry, lighting is essential for backyard nights beneath the stars. We particularly love adding layers of string lights to the patio for extra ambiance. Or bring in a large-scale fire pit as a focal point for outdoor gatherings all season long. Bonus: not only are fire pits incredibly functional, but they're also a huge hit with kids for after-dinner s'mores.

Cozy is the first word that comes to mind for fall. That’s why we’ve sourced our favorite wool throws to add to your outdoor set-up. Go ahead and place a throw blanket basket in your seating areas or style one on each dining chair for a fall-inspired dinner party.

When it comes to accessories, don’t forget about your front door. This natural doormat works as an excellent foundation layer while adding a natural wreath brings plenty of texture into play.
