The August Edit

Is it just me, or does fall seem to be creeping up a bit early this year? The carefree days of summer feel like they’ve been quickly replaced with busier schedules, big school decisions, and Labor Day coming up right around the corner.

Like so many parents, our family is preparing for the adjustment to distance learning this fall, and it’s all been weighing heavily on my mind. The crazy juggle of school-aged kids and working parents is no small feat, and we’re in the midst of figuring out our new normal in the days ahead. I wish I had profound advice to offer, but for now, it’s just a sense of solidarity, and a fun recap of my August favorites. Whether you’re looking for something new on your podcast lineup, kitchen inspo for your Pinterest boards, or just some comfy pants that help any outfit look pulled together, I’ve got you covered.

I’m not usually one for bold statements, but this month I stumbled upon a new podcast that is literally changing my life. It’s a series called Ear Hustle and is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever come across. As a side note: for those of you don’t know, I listen to podcasts nearly 24/7, so that’s saying quite A LOT. As I continue on my journey to be anti-racist, I’ve realized that I need to learn more about the disadvantage that the BIPOC community face and mass incarceration is part of that story. Ear Hustle is doing some really important work, and I can’t recommend their podcast enough.

Who else is going a bit nuts wearing the same “athleisure” look day in and day out? Our project manager, Laura, and I have been lamenting our closet situations lately, so this month I finally ordered a few new items from Everlane. So far, I’m really loving these pants that easily dress up any top, and you can find me regularly pairing it with Everlane’s organic t-shirt. And just in case you need some fresh basics for fall, I also picked this French terry sweatshirt in two more colors, making it one of the most-loved items in my wardrobe.

Over at the design studio, we’re in the midst of a few kitchen design projects, and I’ve been pinning so much new inspiration to our kitchens board on Pinterest. Follow along, and you’re sure to be bombarded with kitchen ideas for days!

Speaking of kitchens—we know we’ll be spending more time at home in the coming months, so I’m officially invested in upping our kitchen gadgets game. A lot of our kitchen items are getting pretty tired (most were purchased more than a decade ago!), so it’s high time for some updates around here. I’ve been researching and adding to my list little by little, and I can’t wait to purchase a few new tools to help inspire lots of great home cooking.

We just finished up our July Instagram Live, and it’s saved over our on IGTV, just in case you missed it! Laura and I hopped on camera to discuss our current design inspiration, the unhurried process of curating great spaces, and why there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach for creating your home. In August, our IGTV Live will focus on all things timelines! We’ll answer questions about when to invite an interior designer into the process, the ways our role differs from a contractor or architect, and how the entire process unfolds. We’d love to have you join, and can’t wait to tackle this topic together!
