THE MAY EDIT
Happy May, friends! I’m back with another installment of the monthly edit series, and this time around I’m bringing you everything from home to garden to office updates and more. These past few weeks have started to regain a little normalcy, and quite honestly, I’m grateful for every last bit. Here around the studio, I’ve been keeping busy making progress on the office redesign and onboarding a new addition to the team — more on that below! While routines are still beginning to take shape, it’s so exciting to move forward into this next phase of my business.
Along with some fun office news, I’ve spent this month dreaming up a few home and wardrobe updates to help me step into the new season. My online carts are filling up with picks in cute sandals, lighter bed linens, and outdoor accessories, because it’s officially summer, people, and I’m 100% here for it.
The change of season calls for a much-needed refresh, and that includes textiles all around the home. I’m feeling more than ready to tuck away our heavier linens and towels in exchange for lighter, more breathable options to help take us through the summer months (hooray for summer in Minneapolis!). In pursuit of that summer-inspired look, I’ve spent a bit of time perusing my usual bedding standbys like Parachute, Lulu and Georgia, and Etsy, just to name a few. Believe it or not, I’ve been happily surprised to find some solid options at price points across the board.
With more time spent at home this season, I’ve been working hard to keep up our garden! While I’d love to have a sprawling vegetable assortment, we don’t get quite enough direct sunlight to make it happen. Luckily, our perennial garden is going gangbusters, and I’ll absolutely take what I can get.
Along with gardening, staying at home with my family has meant spending time outdoors nearly every chance we get. My kids are very into birds these days, so we’ve been trying lots of new ways to attract them in our yard! Rest assured, I’ve curated a few winners in case you happen to be in the market for some bird feeders slash kid entertainment, too.
Warm weather is upon us, which means it's time to reach for footwear with a more summer-approved feel. For the sake of simplicity, I’m typically a “one pair of shoes per season” type of person, so it truly has to be a multi-purpose selection. I need a pair of shoes that can take me from playing in the backyard with my kids to designing in my office, and literally everywhere in between. For me, style is important, but comfort is key. I’m still on the hunt for that perfect summer shoe, but I’ve honed in on a few of my current faves.
I’m happy to report that the J Miller Interiors office space is coming along quite nicely. The redesign has been a continual balance of form and function, and I know the final result is going to be something pretty special.
In other very big news, I’ve recently added an incredible new staff person to the team — Laura! Laura will be handling all things ordering and project management, plus generally helping make studio magic happen behind-the-scenes. I cannot tell you how exciting it’s been to welcome a new team member, and I’m feeling super jazzed about the ability to increase capacity and serve our clients to the max. I’ll be helping Laura get settled in the coming weeks, but keep an eye out for a more formal introduction coming soon!
That’s a wrap for the May Edit! Thanks for coming along, and let me know what’s been inspiring your day-to-day moments in the comments below.
