Shoppable Outdoor Living Style

With the snow long behind us here in Minneapolis, we’ve got all things outdoor living on our minds. That means pulling out the backyard essentials, freshening up our pots and planters, and enjoying al fresco meals as often as we can. Earlier this year, we predicted that indoor/outdoor spaces would sweep the design world in 2021, but today we want to take it one step further. We’re pairing our favorite outdoor living inspiration with a curated selection of shoppable products to get the look with the click of a button.

While we typically use this blog space to delve into the world of interiors, this time around, we’re shifting our attention elsewhere. From patio furniture to fire pits, planters, rugs, and more, we’ve sourced all the necessary components for a backyard space that’s layered, inviting and made for (outdoor) modern living.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE: DINING

Arguably the most important component to outdoor living comes down to a great set of dining furniture. These are the pieces that lay the foundation of your space, allowing you to gather loved ones for a meal in all the sun-drenched days ahead. Let the footprint of the space be your guide when selecting a round vs. rectangular table, and make sure to allow for plenty of breathing room between chairs.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE: LOUNGE

Long summer nights call for well-designed spaces to promote conversation and connection. We’re talking about the kind of lounge spaces that make you want to linger a while longer and enjoy an extra glass of rosé before the sun goes down. With the right combination of furniture pieces (think a long sofa, several lounge chairs, and coffee table), you’ll have the perfect set-up to entertain any night of the week.

POTS + PLANTERS

As previously mentioned, we included indoor/outdoor living spaces as a design trend to watch. And sure enough, we’re seeing more clients prioritize backyard entertaining with heightened efforts around landscaping, gardening, and potted plants. Whether you work with a professional landscape architect or simply DIY your patio planters, there’s nothing like fresh blooms to bring vibrance and life to your outdoor set-up.

FIRE PITS

With the number of outdoor gatherings we’ve all held over the past year, it seems like everyone on the block wants some added warmth in their backyard. This could be an outdoor fireplace, a portable fire pit, a set of patio heaters, and more. As you’re narrowing down the best fire pit options, don’t overlook the extras to go along with it. For example, we love this modern log holder that doubles as a statement piece all its own.

RUGS + TEXTILES

There’s nothing like a great rug to pull together a space, both indoors and out. As you’re shopping for an outdoor rug, make sure it’s made of weather-resistant materials, which can include synthetic or natural fiber varieties. We often gravitate towards natural fibers for outdoor rugs, and options like jute and sisal are known to wear well for the long haul.
