The October Edit

Earlier this month, our team spend time scouring the East Texas countryside for treasures at Round Top, shopping for a few clients and for our own inventory. This was our second visit (see our spring trip here), so we felt much more prepared this time around, and more easily navigated the many, many tents. We caught up with favorite vendors and got to know a few new-to-us vendors on our hunt for the best vintage art, accessories, rugs, textiles, and furnishings.

YOND COTTAGE UPDATE

Autumn is in full swing at the Yond Cottage, where demo has wrapped up and the framing has begun! Progress is a bit slow but steady at the moment, but with the new, much larger, windows now framed in and exterior work set to begin in the coming weeks, it feels like it is finally starting to come together. During these messy months of construction, it’s fun to look back at our inspiration posts to see how it has evolved as we began selecting products. Design work for the bedrooms is well in-hand, and the other rooms will be very soon.

FAVORITE THINGS

I’m intrigued by the many ways that fellow designers are using marble as a material for absolutely anything and everything, including the stunning island made entirely of stone in this Jackson, Wyoming, house. Natural stone bring so much organic texture and movement to any space, and I love the idea of incorporating larger pieces of it into less-expected places, like this coffee table.

Cozy season has definitely arrived in our part of the country, and I’m craving all of the warm, textural layers. This throw is the loveliest shade of brown and is made of both alpaca and merino wool so you know it will be super soft. And while this faux fur coat is likely not heavy enough for long Minnesota winters, it’s the perfect top layer for this season.

Since our time at Round Top, I’ve had vintage furnishings on my mind. While I prefer to specify new or custom pieces for frequently-used items like sofas and beds, it’s hard to replicate the charm and authenticity of vintage and antique furnishings. Our favorite ways to incorporate them are rugs, occasional seating, art, and lighting. Here are a few that have caught my eye of late.

The Yond Cottage isn’t ready for guests quite yet, but that hasn’t stopped us from enjoying this magical season Up North. If you’re considering a trip to the area, you don’t want to miss our favorite spots on Minnesota’s North Shore

If you’ve ever wondered more about the ins and outs of interior design, check out our post on the reasons for hiring an interior designer. We did a deep dive into some of the lesser-known components of our work, offering a better understanding of how a designer could (and should!) be part of the process of a renovation, new build, or even an extensive furnishing job.

We also tackled some common concerns about living in and renovating historic homes. As many of the homes in our portfolio fall into this category, we consider it an area of expertise and are happy to share our enthusiasm for bringing charm and function into an older house.
