Interior Design Trends for 2023

Truthfully, we don’t put all that much stock into interior design trends, preferring instead to lean into the vision of our clients and the architecture team. It’s still interesting to watch the way certain patterns or colors really take hold and to watch certain styles and preferences fall in and out of favor. But, we keep our focus on quality materials with some classic applications and to deliver spaces that feel current - without being overly trendy - that our clients can enjoy for a long time.

Trend: Wallpaper, Wallpaper, Wallpaper

There is really not other design element that makes as big an impact as wallpaper. Whether it’s used as an accent or for a full room, we think that we’re going to see wallpaper everywhere. It’s a great way to make a bold or even playful statement, so if you want to have fun with it, try it in a dining room, powder bath, hallway, or entry. To give it an updated feel, forgo white trim and choose a shade from the paper’s palette, instead.

PS, We’ve saved our favorite patterns on our Pinterest board.

Trend: All Over Color

Rather than apply a single paint color throughout a home, we’re going to see a lot more ‘room specific’ color. Not only will color vary more from room to room, but it will be applied to the walls, trim, and even the ceiling or floor. We’re leaning into this idea in a few of our current projects, so stay tuned for the Yond Interiors take!

Trend: Warmer Wood Tones

We’re not quite ready to give up on light White Oak just yet, but we do think we’ll see more warmer wood tones for furniture, cabinetry, and flooring going forward. This is great news is you have an older home with natural wood millwork or an affinity for antiques, but of course, we think the real magic is in the mix. Don’t be afraid to mix light and dark wood tones together in a space.

Trend: Vintage

This is not likely to be news to anyone, but there is definitely a widespread renewed interest in vintage and antique wares. It’s easy to see how the current social climate could create a desire for nostalgia, but vintage pieces are also more sustainable and after years of industry-wide manufacturing delays, the appeal of off-the-shelf shopping is undeniable! Vintage and handmade items have always been at the core of our aesthetic, however, and we value them for the soulfulness and authenticity that they bring to a space.

Trend: Earthy Shades

Finally, another “trend” that isn’t new, but is seeing renewed interest is saturated and moody paint colors on everything from walls to cabinetry. Not surprisingly that after years of white, bright spaces dominating the scene, the pendulum is swinging the opposite way in favor of deeper tones. What makes this uniquely 2023 will be the earthy tones of the colors – even the grays and deep blues will have a bit of brown in them, rather than the brightness of bold spaces of the past.
