A Year in Review: 2022

As our first full year as Yond Interiors, it’s been an exciting one! 2022 brought continued industry challenges through supply chain and shipping disruptions, but our team rose to the occasion and we are quote proud of the work we produced. We completed projects large and small in several states and I’m continually impressed and inspired by the intentional, thoughtful design work of our team. Let’s take a look back at some of the projects we revealed, remember the content produced here on the blog, and get a preview of what’s coming for 2023.

2022 Project Reveals

Sheridan Avenue

In this 19th-century Colonial-style home in southwest Minneapolis, out goal was to honor and preserve this historic integrity of the house while making more comfortable and functional for a young family. We started by refinished the hardwood floors throughout the home, then brought in a fresh color scheme — including a dramatic blue in the living room — and added custom furnishings to make the most of every inch in the small space. In the adjacent dining space, we used a contrasting trim color to highlight the room’s original architectural details. While their home is not large, our clients entertain regularly, so we designed a narrow dining table and credenza to perfectly fit the space, and paired them with seating comfortable enough for long dinner parties or game nights.

Broadway Court

The stunning location of this Sun Valley, Idaho, home inspired many of our design choices. We drew heavily on the colors and textures found in nature to bring a cozy, homey feeling to the modern structure. Natural materials, custom millwork, and soft textures brought a feeling of modern warmth, while maintaining a level of quiet sophistication. We used white Oak throughout the home to bring a sense of continuity, and contrast with handmade tile and wallpaper to give each bedroom suite a unique perspective.

Paisley Lane

Graphic wallpapers, vintage furnishings, and masculine colors were key to giving this new-construction home some much-needed soul. The biggest impact was reworking the fireplace wall by removing the large-scale tile used as a surround and lime-washing it in a subtle taupe instead. We also reworked the shelves on either side to create a focal point that set the design tone for the rest of the home. The result is a home that now feels collected and character-filled and is more reflective of its inhabitants.

Best of the Blog

We talked quite a bit about color, describing our most-used palette of saturated neutrals, but also sharing our take on yellow, brown, and dark, moody shades. The Yond Cottage has been front of mind for much of the year, and we’ve detailed the initial inspiration and room mood boards as we’ve refined the design elements. Our team took two sourcing trips to the Round Top Antiques Fair in Texas, and we shared our experiences, plus a few frequently asked questions for those interested in making the journey. We also talked about how we approach family-friendly design, why we believe in elevating everyday objects, and how to renovate historic homes with intention.

Looking Ahead

We finished the year installing several projects that we hope to reveal here on the blog in the coming months (if you missed it, you can view the Parklands Road project in our portfolio). We’re also looking forward to the completion of the Yond Cottage and to sharing the beautiful North Shore of Minnesota with our guests. If you follow us on Instagram, perhaps you’ve noticed that we’re currently looking for a new office space. We quickly outgrew our current space, and since we’re looking to add to our team next year, a larger spot to gather is becoming a necessity.
