What We're Sourcing on Etsy

One of our values as a firm is elevating the everyday for our clients. That means delivering a practical, functional design by including durable, useful objects that will stand the test of time and that add aesthetic value to their space, rather than subtracting from it. We believe that using beautiful objects enhances even the most mundane tasks, and seek to fill our clients’ homes with authentic, meaningful pieces to do just that.

There is a misconception that the most beautiful objects are also the most expensive, and while there is a price for quality over mass production, there are plenty of makers out in the world creating beautiful things and charging a fair price. One of our favorite sources for those objects is Etsy. Here’s what is catching our eye.

Unique Textiles

A new season is a great time to refresh small textiles like hand towels and pillow covers, both of which are easily stored when not in use. If you’re concerned that swapping throw pillow covers will disrupt your home’s color palette, fear not! Stick with similar saturated neutral shades, and you can easily change and update colors as the seasons (or your mood!) changes. We don’t subscribe to a formula for mixing patterns, instead find that choosing natural materials like linen, cotton, wool, or hemp in the same color shades works nicely and feels more organic and authentic in a room.

Vintage Rugs

With the cooler season upon us, now is the time to layer up! Made of wool, vintage rugs are surprisingly durable and easy to clean, making them a great option even in high-traffic areas like a kitchen or mudroom. We often source medium-sized rugs to add color and pattern to bathrooms, hallways, and as a layer over a larger rug in living spaces or bedrooms. And as manufacturing and shipping delays continue to be an issue in our industry, shopping for readily-available vintage items is a win for our project timelines, too.

Handmade Ceramics

Now is a great time to think about dinnerware and if you need an update, handmade is the way to go for creating a casual, yet elevated, table. We also advise clients to invest in items that are touched the most often, and there is little in a home that gets more use than a dishes. Well-proportioned mugs, special serving platters, or beautifully-made plates truly never go out of style and lend meaning and authenticity to the smallest of everyday tasks.

Fine Art Prints

While original art is our first choice for filling walls, interesting fine art prints are a close second. I really like the portraits by North Carolina artist Tracy Bogart, who uses the most lovely colors and shapes. Antique paintings that are now in the public domain are fun to use, too, and Etsy is full of print shops that use quality paper, so they still seem like works of art.
