The January Edit

The new year has been off to a busy start, and the rest of 2023 is likely to follow suit. We’ve outgrown our current office and are one the hunt for something more suitable. We’ve got our eyes on a beautiful space with loads of charm, huge windows, and cool exposed brick and are working on a build-out plan with a goal to be moved in and settled by the end of this year. It will definitely be a necessary move because we’re also hoping to expand our team by adding a designer. If you are local to the Twin Cities, and are interested, keep an eye on our Instagram account, where we’ll share more details soon.

Progress at the Yond Cottage

Minnesota winters can be tough on construction projects, but things at the Yond Cottage are slowly but surely moving along. One change we knew we wanted to make immediately was to install larger windows — the better to take in the spectacular views of Lake Superior. Now that they are installed and the new roof is finished, the real fun can begin! Rough-ins for plumbing and electrical are underway, insulation and drywall are up next, and then things will (hopefully!) really pick up on the interior. We’ve tweaked the plans to perfection and products and custom furnishings are starting to arrive, so we’re all excited to see it start coming together. We began this project in 2019, and we’re hopeful to see it completed early this summer, and to be able to open it as a luxury vacation rental soon after. Stay tuned!

Our Improved Pinterest Boards

Pinterest has become an effective marketing tool, so we’ve recently spent some time organizing our boards there and adding easily shopable products that reflect our values and aesthetic. All of our finds are sorted by topic to make the boards easy to navigate and our favorite finds easier to shop.

Monthly Content Recap

You’ve likely seen the Elmwood Place kitchen on our social media accounts, but we finally revealed the full project on the blog last week. We took a dated kitchen with a cramped layout and opened it up to create a spacious work area and cozy eat-in nook perfect for a family that loves to cook and entertain. With a nod to European style and full of custom details, we are especially proud of this one!

The turn of a new year always brings about talk of the latest and greatest of well, everything. And while we don’t subscribe to trends, it’s still fun to take note of what captures our collective attention from year to year, and see how we can incorporate fresh ideas into our spaces.

One trend we noted that isn’t a trend, in our opinion, but rather a classic design element that is trending, is colorful or contrast trim. We’ve used dark or mid-tone paint colors on trim in several recent projects, and have several in the works and think it’s a wonderful way to bring architectural interest and character into a space.
