The November Edit

With the year winding down, I’m already thinking back on how much we have accomplished in 2022 and looking forward to everything that will happen in 2023. It’s been an exciting year for our firm — we rebranded to better reflect our values, finished and installed several projects that we are super proud of, began work on the Yond Cottage to offer our aesthetic to a different market, took two sourcing trips to Texas, and much, much more.

A YEAR OF YOND INTERIORS

I began this business as Julia Miller Interiors, but I always knew that I would transition to something that didn’t have my personal name in it. We’ve been operating as Yond Interiors for a full year now, and making that change — while a lot of work on the front end — has been great. It’s a name that is unique to us, and will still make sense no matter how we change and grow in the the future.

FAVORITE RECENT PROJECTS

I’m extremely proud of the work that we produced in 2022. We installed and photographed six projects recently, all with a slightly different vibe but with our signature modern organic aesthetic. We worked with many exceptional craftspeople to bring a sense of place and functionality to each home, whether a modern new home in Idaho or a quaint bungalow on a quiet street here in Minneapolis.

Looking back: Recent installations -  Mississippi River Boulevard, Winnetka Avenue, Elmwood Place, Thomas Avenue, Sheridan Avenue and Paisley Lane.

YOND COTTAGE PROGRESS

Things are coming together at the Yond Cottage. Earlier this month, we tested a diverse set of earthy neutrals for the exterior, and products and materials are starting to roll in. We don’t have an official completion date quite yet, but we are hoping to begin welcoming guests sooner than later after the New Year. Each time we visit the site, I am reminded of why we took on such a project — that area of Minnesota is truly one of my favorite places on earth and I cannot wait to share it with you!

Looking back: our inspiration for the renovation. Design plans for the bedrooms.

FAVORITE THINGS

This time of year, shopping and hosting is top of mind and I’ve gathered some of my favorite recent finds. I talk a lot about elevating everyday objects and choosing the best that your budget will allow, and I really do live by that philosophy. Making carefully-considered choices about the objects that we interact with daily really does have an impact on our lives, and in the same way, buying from small businesses, independent makers, and socially- and environmentally-responsible companies has an impact on the world around us.

MONTHLY CONTENT RECAP

In September, we joined some interior design friends at the Round Top Antiques Fair in Texas. Here on the blog, I shared some favorite finds and answered all the questions you asked on Instagram about the logistics of attending and shopping at Round Top.

Etsy is our favorite online source for unique and handmade items, and I shared a round-up of a few makers and venders we call upon again and again for interesting and one-of-a-kind pieces.

The change in the weather had us thinking about all of the dark and cozy rooms we have designed and admired, so we gathered all of our favorite dark, moody paint colors in one place. From deep, saturated blues, to earthy greens, and even a purple with red undertones, the post has all our favorite shades, and our tips for pulling off a bold hue.
