Broadway Court Project Reveal: Part I

While our team is in the midst of reorganizing the studio, we're pausing to reveal a project we've been anxiously waiting to share: Broadway Court. Over the past 18 months, we worked alongside an expert team of builders and architects to craft this one-of-kind home set in Sun Valley, Idaho. Our design studio was tasked with all fixtures and furnishings across the home's three levels to create a sense of space that mirrored the natural context.

Inspiration came directly from the surrounding mountainous landscape, guiding our decision-making towards natural materials and earth-toned hues. Our client's primary goal was a comfortable gathering space, which was well-considered in every detail.

Today, we're taking you through part one of this project reveal, covering the kitchen, main living area, and entryway. Discover what made this project uniquely special with photographs captured by Amanda Birnie.

Project Overview

CLIENT: Project Broadway Court

LOCATION: Sun Valley, ID

TIMELINE: 1.5 years

SCOPE OF WORK: Entire home: fixtures and furniture

Design Story

Our clients came looking to create a warm and welcoming space for their second home in Sun Valley. They have family connections in the area and wanted to spend more time with their loved ones engaging in outdoor activities together. The home is intended to be a gathering space, and the clients wanted it to be comfortable, accommodating, and filled with meaningful details.

We came on board to Broadway Court once the house had been framed, and our work was a race to the very end. One obstacle we faced during this project was simply timing. The project began during the chaos of 2020, but both our builder and clients were fantastic to work with every step of the way. Their patience through such unusual times made our job feel effortless.

We wanted to mimic the home’s linearity and chose a long oval table with seating for everyone.

Living Area + Kitchen

As designers, the surrounding landscape of Sun Valley was all the inspiration we needed. We honed in on a very natural color palette, and the materials and furnishing selections followed suit.

No matter where a project takes us, we love to incorporate artisan-crafted pieces from our local community. We brought in a few of our favorite Minneapolis makers, including Rovan Hand Crafted Furniture, to design a custom dining table for the clients. We wanted to mimic the home’s linearity and chose a long oval table with seating for everyone.

The kitchen gave us yet another opportunity to incorporate custom details for our clients. We had fun thinking about ways to waterfall the stone on the kitchen island and settled on a ⅓ waterfall edge that blends very seamlessly. The dovetail detail on the kitchen island drawers was also a beautiful detail on the walnut island. To round out the kitchen design, we commissioned Minneapolis-based Live Oak Ironworks to create brass shelves and sourced a Passerine vintage runner, which tied the space together.

We’ll be back next month with part two of our Broadway Court reveal, covering the bedroom and bathroom design. In the meantime, you can read this project in Western Home Journal.
